SMFG India Credit's Environmental Sustainability CSR Initiatives

There is a growing need to adopt environment friendly practices in everyday lives. In line with this global priority, SMFG India Credit launched Krishi Mitra- a unique organic farming awareness program to ensure the adoption of sustainable environmental practices at grassroots level. Organic farming in principle discourages the use of harsh chemicals and therefore, contributes towards the preservation of the natural environment.
Krishi Mitra
Initiated in 2013, SMFG India Credit’s Krishi Mitra Organic Farming project educates communities about organic farming, its benefits, and the process of organic certification to enhance returns from agricultural produce.
Selected candidates undergo detailed training on organic farming concepts and practical demonstrations through a 7-day residential program. Upon completion, they are certified as Krishi Mitras and collaborate with local NGOs. These Krishi Mitras disseminate various organic farming methods, provide practical demonstrations, and offer support for preparing low-cost compost. They also facilitate the formation of farmer groups for organic certification and raise awareness through focused group discussions.
Currently, SMFG India Credit has trained over 50 Krishi Mitras who serve as outreach workers.

This initiative has significantly enhanced agricultural practices and livelihoods, fostering sustainable farming communities.
