Our environmental CSR initiatives are designed to embed sustainability into the fabric of community life by promoting eco-friendly practices, enhancing biodiversity, and encouraging responsible resource management. By supporting grassroots projects like organic farming, afforestation, and mangrove restoration, we aim to build resilient ecosystems and empower local communities to become stewards of the environment.

SMFG India Credit’s Krishi Mitra Organic Farming initiative was launched in 2013. It aims to educate and empower farming communities by promoting the benefits of organic agriculture and guiding them through the process of organic certification to enhance returns from their produce.
Selected participants undergo a comprehensive 7-day residential training program, which includes both theoretical knowledge and practical demonstrations of organic farming techniques. Upon completion, they are certified as Krishi Mitras and begin working in collaboration with local NGOs.
These Krishi Mitras play a pivotal role in:
To date, over 50 Krishi Mitras have been trained and actively serve as outreach workers, driving sustainable agricultural practices and improving livelihoods at the grassroots level.

Mangroves play a crucial role in protecting coastal areas. They act as natural shields against erosion and storm surges, support a wide variety of plants and animals, absorb large amounts of carbon to combat climate change, and provide essential resources such as fish and timber to local communities. Restoring mangroves is now a key part of global efforts to protect the environment and build climate resilience.
Our Mangrove Restoration Project aims to revive damaged coastal zones through a combination of scientific planning and community involvement. In two carefully planned phases, we planted saplings to fill ecological gaps and increase vegetation cover. This initiative marks a significant step toward restoring coastal health and resilience.
Each species was selected based on local conditions—such as salinity, tidal patterns, and soil type—to ensure the mangroves can grow naturally and support long-term ecosystem benefits. This thoughtful approach helps create a strong, diverse mangrove forest that can sustain itself and support the surrounding environment.

Urban green spaces are vital for Indian cities, helping combat rising temperatures, air pollution, and flooding—especially during the monsoons. They also support biodiversity and enhance community well-being.
In response to these environmental challenges, SMFG India Credit launched a targeted tree plantation program. Focused on high-density areas with limited green cover, the initiative aimed to create Urban Micro Forests using a diverse mix of native saplings. This initiative not only strengthens the city's ecological resilience but also fosters a healthier and more vibrant urban environment.
