Jeevika- Women Empowerment and Skill Development Initiatives

SMFG India Credit collaborates with over 3 million women, providing microcredit access for income-generating activities, thereby enhancing their livelihoods. The Jeevika CSR initiative was launched with the primary objective of enhancing the capacity and skill development of rural women, enabling them to adopt business acumen, leading to increased income, improved social status, and overall women empowerment. All initiatives include market linkages and entrepreneurship development training, ensuring the trained women achieve financial independence through assured income.

We have partnered with various NGOs to provide skill and entrepreneurship training in different vocations such as apparel (tailoring), embroidery work, beauty and hair care, and indigenous crafts, creating income generation opportunities at the community level.

Today, India stands as the largest producer of milk globally, contributing to 24% of the world’s milk production. Remarkably, India produces 50% more milk than the USA, albeit with ten times the cattle population, underscoring a significant challenge in the dairy sector: low cattle yields. Dairy farming is a vital rural livelihood, providing supplementary income that helps families, especially in rural areas, navigate the uncertainties of agricultural income.

Recognizing cattle care as a crucial community need, SMFG India Credit launched the innovative Pashu Vikas Day (PVD) program as a CSR initiative. This initiative not only addresses the challenges within the dairy sector but also creates a valuable networking platform for cattle owners. Since its inception in 2014, Pashu Vikas Day has completed six editions and is celebrated as the largest single-day cattle care initiative in the world.
